GBC Journey

After completing work on the Ultra-Fast Broadband project in Canterbury, learning skills that started as a temporary general labourer and progressing all the way to becoming one of the top project managers, running anywhere from 10 to 60 staff and project managing 12 km of trenching and directional drilling UFB network builds at any given time.

A hands-on mentality at every step of the way whilst working through the ranks soon led to an opportunity to complete subcontracting work supporting a directional drill team in the Picton and Marlborough area. That work soon led to opportunities in Nelson, where the company’s capabilities quickly expanded. What started in fibre installation grew into a wide range of services across commercial and private projects, including drainage, retaining walls, earthworks, and a strong focus on quality reinstatement, leaving the area as good as, or better than, when the team arrived on site.

Meet the Team

Dillon Winkelman

Founder

The main man behind Ground Breaking Contracting. A detail focused leader who sets the standard for quality and finishing across every job safely and cleanly.

Nothing leaves site unless it meets his expectations, and that is exactly why the bar is so high.

When he is not on site, Dillon can usually be found out in the surf or wandering the Bunnings aisles gathering supplies for his next renovation idea.

Craig Coutts

Construction Manager

Originally from Timaru, Craig made the move to Nelson bringing with him a wealth of experience across multiple industries. Calling him well rounded is an understatement.

A qualified drain layer, Craig manages the GBC team while also working alongside CAD Directional Drilling. He plays a key role in keeping jobs running smoothly and to a high standard.

Outside of work, Craig is a family man who enjoys camping and a good yarn. There is never a dull conversation when he is around.

Jeremy Coutts

Lead STMS

Jeremy looks after most setting up most of the GBC Traffic Management.

If you see GBC cones set up around Nelson, chances are Jeremy is behind it.

He is also a capable hand on the civil side when needed. Outside of work, Jeremy is a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoys building and riding bikes, often out in the hills.

Cam Williams

Master Operator and Finisher

Need it finished right the first time? Cam is your man. A skilled operator with an eye for detail, he takes pride in making every job look sharp and finished to a high standard.

Put Cam and Dillon on the same job and you will quickly understand what attention to detail really means. In his spare time, Cam is all about the outdoors, whether it is fishing, kayaking or camping.

Andrew James

Business Development and Drill locator

Andrew supports the GBC team wherever needed, whether that is on the tools or out chasing new opportunities.

Always hungry for work, he is focused on building relationships and growing the business. When it comes to drilling, that is where he thrives. With a strong feel for the locator, he takes pride in guiding the drill head cleanly to its target.

Outside of work, Andrew is usually in the surf charging and getting overly competitive with Dillon or back in Christchurch playing “uncle of the year” to his nieces and nephews.
